The entrance to the Sanctuary office is upstairs. |
|
Here upstairs over the stage commons area we have the newest satellite
office for the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. The first and main office
is located in Monterey on Foam Street. It is available for Marine Sanctuary education
and outreach programs. If you want to know anything or contact Marine Sanctuary
staff, here is the place. The Marine Sanctuary was designated 6 years ago
after 17 years of review and political agreement. MBNMS is the largest of our
nation's 12 marine sanctuaries. It spans some 350 miles of coastline from the
Marin Headlands just north of the Golden Gate to Cambria just south of the Hearst
Castle. At its widest arc, it reaches 50 miles offshore generally following the
1,500 ft. underwater contour. The Marine Sanctuary Division is a part of the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), within the Commerce Department.
This office is also shared by the Center for Marine Conservation and Baynet,
a group of volunteers that provide docent staffing for public education. The
phone number for the Santa Cruz Office is (831) 420-1630.
